This quote means that ginning is not all about, you have to be fare with everybody because that way you will be respected by many people and they will look at you like a honorable guy. For example when you and your soccer team are playing a league final and the referee marks a penalty on your favor and you it wasn't, so the right thing to do there is to miss the penalty and loose the final because is better to loose and know that you played well, than know that you won with a fake penalty. But everybody is going to know that your team is honorable and fair.
